153/365 – Tour de France Stage 1 Rotterdam – Brussels

The Tour de France started this weekend and thanks to Amy’s quick thinking we decided to check the route last night… the first stage went from The Netherlands to Brussels and came about 45 minutes away from our house.

Before the racers came there was a large ‘caravan’ parade.. all the press, officials and vendors went on the route.  Some were just in cars others had floats.  They came flying down the route doing about 30 miles per hour.. worlds fastest parade!

I sort of randomly picked a city to drive to along the route.. but I must have picked a popular one.. as the Goodyear Blimp was there also!

A little different kind of tailgating over here… a ‘wine cooler’ …

There was a local in the tour…

and in the lead…

Go Serge – the local…

and here comes the pack.  This was much cooler than it ever looks on TV.  A loud ‘whoooosh’ moves up quickly and the spectators on the road are as close to the pack as they can get.

I am pretty sure I found Lance Armstrong in this next picture.  Click on the image to make it larger then look for the green shirt and orange helmet.  Directly above his left shoulder you will see Armstrong

So, do you think JRW would try to get 225 wool-suited plume-heads to hit 30mph with a 6-to-5 step?

hahaa.. nope.. but I do think it would make a great new plan for Alumni Band parades.. hop on a flatbed, strap in and off we go!

ooooo...Now that sounds like a plan. Wine included, of course!
